We were very good about getting our message out. We organized rallies, held press events, sued in county court, maintained a web site (not this site – this site is an archival re-construction of this work) and sent out regular email newsletters.

Someone should call Ben Joravski, of the reader. Or ask Blair Kamin how a building he had described as “pharaoic” and monolithic is now, magically, acceptable, this owing to the application of some “magic stone” they intend to sheathe it in. If this center is to benefit the community, where is the agreement? A community organizer would use this as an opportunity to create jobs, stabilize housing, freeze real estate taxes, and finally give us rent control, so greedy landlords cannot go on preying on the working class. The park should be the front lawn of the OPC. There are vacant lots up and down Stony Island Ave. A twenty story tall, stone clad building is way out of proportion. Further road revisions will pave another quarter square mile of the park. Costs, over $175 mil., to be paid by taxpayers. So, too OPC upkeep. Amount unknown.
