Thanks to the tireless work of the stewards and Friends of Montrose Beach this cracked scam for Montrose Beach was defeated in 48 hours! They got an email early on Memorial Day Weekend with a short note that these plans were marching forward at the state and city level. This group sprang into action and started making calls and emails. They had stopped another attempt at privatizing Montrose Beach in 2016. Now, it seemed that another attempt to monetize our most popular beach was underway and the plans were released at a time when most people are celebrating, traveling or enjoying the holiday weekend.
Because of the outrage and activism of these tireless public champions, the project was killed. Way to go Friends of Montrose Beach!
As the city pleads poverty and our corrupt and opaque local officials continue to rule – expect more of these secretive deals that seek to strip mine our pubic assets for private gain with no regard for the environment, public need or dubious economics.
